Columbus Anti-Violence Leaders Honored for Dedication to Stop Violence

Anti Violence LeadersOn a memorable evening, The School of Great Commission (SOGC) celebrated an inspiring group of 37 Columbus Anti-Violence leaders who made remarkable strides in promoting peace and their dedication to ending violence within the community. This award ceremony was not just a recognition of their hard work; it was a testament to the powerful impact these leaders have had on countless lives in Columbus. Each recipient was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree, a prestigious accolade that acknowledges their significant contributions to society, particularly in the realm of violence prevention and community upliftment.

An honorary doctorate degree is a special recognition conferred by a university to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to a specific field, be it academic, professional, or societal. Unlike traditional doctorate degrees, which require rigorous academic work and research, honorary degrees are awarded by waiving these conventional requirements. This practice allows institutions to honor remarkable individuals whose achievements and commitments to society exemplify the values and mission of the university. In this case, The School of Great Commission chose to honor these leaders in recognition of their relentless efforts to foster peace, safety and well-being in the Columbus community.

Among the distinguished recipients were Sean Stevenson and Dr. Joi Jones, two passionate leaders dedicated to combating violence and supporting community health.     Sean Stevenson, the founder of “End the Violence,” has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at reducing violence Columbus. Through various community outreach programs, Stevenson has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the root causes of violence and has implemented strategies to engage youth in constructive activities. His commitment to creating a safer environment for all has made a significant difference in the lives of many.

Dr. Joi Jones, the founder of Nex Level Behavioral Health and Addiction Services, has also played a crucial role the fight against violence by addressing mental health and addiction issues that often contribute to criminal behavior. Dr. Jones is in the final stages of opening a youth peer center in Olde Town East, a vital resource aimed at keeping kids away from crime. This center is set to launch an after-school program in November, providing essential services such as counselling, communication skills, and help kids face challenges in their community. The program is designed to empower youth, helping them face the challenges presented by their communities and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.

37 Anti Violence Leaders  The work of these leaders, along with the other 35 recipients, highlights the importance of community initiatives in addressing the complex issue of violence. By focusing on prevention, education, and support, they are not only addressing immediate concerns but are also laying the groundwork for a more peaceful future. Their dedication serves as an inspiration to others, encouraging community members to engage actively in the fight against violence and to support programs that promote well-being and safety.

The award ceremony hosted by The School of Great Commission was not just an event; it was a celebration of hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of individuals committed to making a difference. The honorary Doctorate Degrees awarded to the Columbus Anti-Violence leaders symbolize a collective recognition of their efforts and a commitment to continuing the fight for peace and safety in their community. Their work is a reminder that change is possible, and with a dedication and collaboration, a brighter future can be forged for generations to come.
